Jess & The Bandit’s are back with new ‘Kings of Summer’ video

Matthew Headlines, News, Press Release

Jess & The Bandits proved with their critically acclaimed debut album, Here We Go Again, that they were a musical force to be reckoned with. Boasting a rock country sound delivered with raw and real grit and an infectious pop punch, the band have enjoyed the loyal support of BBC Radio and TV.

While they last toured the UK at the end of a riotous festival season in 2016, the quintet finally return with Smoke and Mirrors – the long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s #6 Official Country Chart charting Here We Go Again.

With lead vocalist Jess the happiest she has ever been, the writing process for upcoming album Smoke & Mirrors saw her in a very different frame of mind to those for the band’s debut. Having been swept off her feet by her Prince Charming, photographer Chris Peavey, Jess is radiating happiness following her engagement earlier this year.

With her personal and professional life going from strength to strength, Jess impressively battles with the serious hormone condition, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. PCOS can lead to weight gain, excessive body hair, acne and reproductive problems as your ovaries become prone to cysts. With the condition often undetected, 1 in 5 women, including Victoria Beckham and Jools Oliver, suffer without the realisation that they have the condition. Despite battling PCOS for many years, the feisty songstress has always been a strong believer in loving who you are, which lead to her following in the footsteps of Chaka Khan and Beth Ditto to become the first country star to be brand ambassador for a UK high street fashion store, when she teamed up with Evans.

Jess & The Bandits have a busy summer of festivals ahead, and will also be heading out on a headline tour in September to coincide with the release of Smoke & Mirrors, which boasts the rock country edge of their debut while channelling a raw, real Gospel attitude.

Of Smoke & Mirrors, Jess says; I am so excited about this album. I wanted to make sure that the sound grew and developed, Experimenting a little even. Gospel music is so close to my heart that I knew I needed to bring those elements into this new record. Smoke & Mirrors is a labour of love. A collection of songs that will take the listener on a journey.”

After overcoming many changes throughout her life, from bullying to illness, Jess continues to the ray of light that her fans got to know and love of Here We Go Again, and don’t worry as you will find out her name still is trouble…

Front woman Jessica Clemmons, the singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas with the big voice and the warm personality, bonded with the four Brits who make up the Bandits over their mutual love of the music. Now they’re turning that shared affection into some of the most accessible country-pop-rock of the year.

Now, at the helm of the five-piece band, Jessica's ready to take things up another gear. To lift a phrase from Jess and the Bandits’ feel-good single ‘My Name Is Trouble,’ this country girl can rock your world, but she can take it slow, too. “We got a little of that country-rock feel, and then we’ve got those really pretty country ballad sort of songs,” says Jessica. “I spent ten days in Nashville hoping to write enough songs, and left with more than I could put on the record. I’m really excited about it.”

.Jessica graced the Radio 2 playlist early in 2014 with ‘Single Tonight’, had further airplay with ‘Love Like That,’ and sent social media into a spin when she performed her show stopping female take on ‘Wichita Lineman’ on Terry Wogan’s Sunday morning show. All of those tracks are on the new album with the Bandits. With the band, she wowed arena audiences on Boyzone’s BZ20 tour, just as she had on earlier outings with the Overtones and the Stylistics.

On her Nashville sojourn that has produced the new album, Jessica worked with some of Music City’s elite. Producer and co-composer Jeff Cohen has a catalogue of hits and BMI Awards, for the Band Perry’s ‘Postcards From Paris,’ Evan & Jaron’s ‘Crazy For This Girl’ and Big & Rich’s ‘Holy Water,’ in a songbook that’s also attracted the likes of Sugarland, Josh Groban and others, with chart appearances from Australia to Holland and South Africa to Germany.

Clemmons started her recording adventure in 2008, and savoured the creative learning curve of her first album ‘Permanent,’ released the following year. She started her transatlantic visits in those days too, continuing to build her fan base with the second album ‘Loving This Day,’ released in summer 2012. More recently the band have toured with Boyzone.
